ZooKiescrafts Diaper Cover Review and Giveaway {Sponsor Spotlight} Fluffy Butts Giveaway Hop

About ZooKiescrafts:
What is your name and anyone else part of the business?
My name is Michele Zook. I do the sewing and my husband, Jon, is developing our website.
How did you get started with your business?
I stayed home with our children for many reasons. One being my husband's long commute to work and his erratic work schedule. I enjoy being at home, but it is not easy making ends meet with one income. I used cloth diapers, so the idea started from there. So, I can be at home with our small children while helping to contribute a bit to the finances.
Who or what was your inspiration?
Package it came in. LOVE IT! :)
Being able to stay home with our children is my inspiration. My mom used to be a seamstress by trade, so I guess it might be in the genes.
How long have you been doing what you do?
I have been sewing for about 2 - 2 1/2 years. I have always enjoyed crafting.
What is your motivation? What are you passionate about?
Once my children are in school full time, I want to be able to still be doing what I am doing. I love the freedom that being my own boss gives.
Where can we find you when you are not working? How do you spend a day off?
Day off? When I am not sewing, answering emails, packing orders, taking pictures, listing new items, or shopping for fabric, I am spending time volunteering in my daughter's preschool. I play the flute in a community band, and we perform in about 25 concerts or parades a year.
Is there anything else you want to tell me about yourself?
This really has nothing to do with the business, but it is such a good story, one I will never tire of sharing.
My father was born in the early 1950's. His parents were young and unwed. Her family forced his mother to put my father up for adoption. After two years of searching, we were able to find his mother about a year ago. She is living just 45 minutes away in a neighboring county. She went on to have 10 more children (7 of which are still living). My father has met all of his brothers and sisters. Sadly, his father passed away just a few years ago. My father was the only child he had. They are both so happy. She has shared that she is letting go of the shame and guilt she has carried for almost 60 years! I liken his behavior to a person who has found new love. He talks about her all the time with a smile on his face. He visits her every weekend - bringing her sweets or flowers. I am so happy for both of them.

About the diaper:
Design:
This is a diaper cover. It is put over absorbent material. For example a fitted, prefold or flat diaper. It can be used alone as a swim diaper. This one has front snaps. It has a cross over design. The top row has 8 snaps and the bottom row has 9.
Sizing:
This one is a size medium. The covers can be made in extra small, small, medium, large and one size (OS).
Extra Small: 13" rise (7-11 lbs.)
Small: 15" rise (10-15lbs.)
Medium: 17" rise (15-25lbs.)
Large: 19" rise (25+lbs)
OS: 13-19" rise (10-35lbs.)
**Weight measurement is approximate as each baby is built differently. It also depends on how much diaper is put on the inside.**
Material:
These covers are made with two layers. The inner layer is waterproof PUL (polyurethane laminante) and the outer is 100% cotton print. The two layers are sewn together with fold over elastic (FOE).

This is just one of the many great styles and patterns that ZooKiescrafts offers. For custom covers you choose the pattern, the size, the closure (front snaps, side snaps or velcro) and you even have the option of inside panels (to hold a prefold without snaps).

Vallon is currently about 15.7 lbs. and he is wearing a size medium. I have put this cover over a few different fitted diapers and have even used it overnight. It did take me a little while to get used to the snaps. I am now able to put this cover on pretty quick. The only problem I've had is that once poop gets on the FOE I have to wash it. But with most cover you will have the same problem. You can solve that by using a fitted with good elastic around the legs.
8 snaps on top and 9 snaps on the bottom

Works great with a tinkle trap underneath
What do I ♥ about it?
The quality is great! This cover seems very sturdy. I am able to use it all night, for 10 hours straight, with a nice absorbent fitted. I like how the snaps are aligned. There are 8 in the top row and 9 in the bottom. This alignment helps me get a good fit on my little one since his legs are quite chunky. I did not have to use the crossover snaps but I like that they're there for small waisted babies. I like how you can completely customize your cover with ZooKiescrafts or buy a ready to ship one.
I love this skull and paint splatter pattern! Thank you Michele for sending me one of my favorites! :) Check out this skull diaper cover for girls!

I also love the 100% biodegradable package it came in! Picture at the top of the review.

What would I change?
There isn't really much I would change. One layer of fabric would help with drying time but then you wouldn't have all these awesome patterns. So, I don't really mind it. Colored snaps would be awesome to make it easier to put on. Then I wouldn't have to count the snaps. :)

What do I think overall?
I am very happy with this cover and would love to have more. I would like to try one of these covers with side snaps. This system is very cost efficient when cloth diapering. I use pockets sometimes but I also enjoy using a fitted with a cover. That way I can throw the fitted in the bag when it is soiled and reuse the cover many times throughout the day. It took me a little while to get used to these snaps, so if you are looking for easier diaper changes or just starting out then go with the velcro.

ZooKiescrafts sells more than just diaper covers. You can also find wet bags, cloth wipes, fleece soakers, reusable sandwich/snack bags, blankets, pacifier clips, handmade bars of soap and cute matching tee & diaper cover sets. They also sell this awesome fabric memory match game.
